9-1-1 Call Centers, also known as Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs), are the public's first line of contact with public safety authorities in an emergency. Mahoning Co., OH is supported by nine locations: Austintown, Beaver, Boardman, Canfield, Campbell, Sebring, Struthers, Youngstown, and Mahoning County Communications Center. The nine locations fall under the purview of The Mahoning County Emergency Management Agency.

CHICAGO, IL — October 19, 2012 — Industry Collaboration Event (ICE5)

HigherGround, Inc. announced its participation in NG9-1-1 testing for National Emergency Number Associations 5th Industry Collaboration Event, or “ICE 5”. Hosted by the RealTime Communications Lab at the Illinois Institute of Technology School of Applied Technology from October 15-19, ICE 5 was the most complicated event in the series to-date, as it tested not only 9-1-1 system elements, but also the consumer-side technologies that will connect with future public safety systems.

The Smart911 service was introduced to area officials Monday at the Barren River Area Development District board meeting. The system, in agreements with all major carriers, can track cell phone calls of all registered users made within the areas serviced by Smart911.

“It’s estimated that at least 70 percent of 911 calls come from cell phones,” Reiter said. “With our system all we have to do is press a button ... and we can get accurate addresses where the cell phone is.”
